Monarch Bar in Lisbon was such a fun surprise. I came in expecting to order a Last Word, but Tamara suggested something off-menu—the Back Door Bandit—and it ended up being exactly what I didn’t know I wanted. It had the perfect balance of kick and spice, with just enough sour. The chipotle and habanero flavors were bold but smooth, and yes, the mix is homemade. WOW to the expert mixologist!! Even their water was thoughtful—infused with macaron tea, light and floral without being sweet. The whole experience felt considered but totally unpretentious. The vibe was cool without trying too hard, and the service was warm and welcoming from the start. I’ll definitely be back to see what else Tamara has up her sleeve. ~ rated b

Excelente opção de bar mais calmo, com opções de drinks diferentes vale a pena o preço de +10 euros por drink. O serviço foi até a mesa permitindo drinks customizados a nossa preferência. Recomendo! Por ser um bar pequeno pode ser que demore um pouco mas não foi um grande problema, além disso algumas opções estavam em falta o que pode ser melhorado para a próxima vez. ~ Lucas F

As pessoas fazem os lugares. Sou cliente do Zé Robertson há mais de 10 anos (em outras paragens). Além de ser exímio na preparação das bebidas, o seu serviço é próximo, a atenção ao detalhe é insuperável e quando quer... galvaniza a sala. Ao seu lado, está o Daniel com o seu foco, serenidade e profissionalismo. Com sorte poderão apanhar também o Rui com a sua energia contagiante. Words can’t describe how special this place is. We were lucky enough to find The Monarch on our first night in Lisbon and went back almost every night. Rui and John are spectacular bartenders and company— they made us feel right at home. The way that they care about making beautiful drinks catered to your personal taste is truly special. If you’re lucky enough to stop in on a “no menu” night, lean into the creativity of these two amazing people. My favorite bar in Lisbon hands down. Friendly place and welcoming to English speakers. The place is a clean, upscale, trendy establishment with comfortable seating. The service was professional and friendly and the establishment really cared about the customer experience. The drinks were artful and unique combinations, involving some different ingredients like rhubarb. There was skilled mixology, care, pride, and passion that went into the cocktails. The owner even helped us with researching and finding a restaurant. I would frequent this place if I was a local. ~ Jason B

This small bar is great. Had great reviews from what I had seen prior. The bartender was attentive and friendly. As was the staff. The drink I had was on their special menu that was a take on a Manhattan using rum and I believe Mezcal? Classy presentation. Sweetness, but not too sweet, with some bitterness at the end for balance. It was very nice. Great atmosphere and an awesome spot for being 5 months old. I believe the bartenders name is Danny, but if not, he was still fantastic and took pride in his art. Very much enjoyed it. Tagged this place for when I come back. ~ Kevin C

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be slapped in the face by a Portuguese prince holding a flaming lime—The Monarch Cocktail Bar is the place for you. I stumbled into this bar (literally—Portuguese cobblestones, I blame you), and within 12 minutes was sipping something called “The Royal Backhand.” It had gin, port wine, a sprig of thyme that may or may not have been someone’s bonsai tree clipping, and an olive wearing sunglasses (I’m still emotionally processing it). The bartender, André, looked like he’d just stepped off the set of Game of Thrones and had the mixology skills of a wizard. He didn’t speak much—just raised an eyebrow and handed me something smoking. I drank it. I saw God. God winked. The vibe? Think: Versailles, but if Marie Antoinette hosted a DJ night and served cocktails in golden goblets with glitter ice cubes. Also, the bathroom smells like citrus and accomplishment. Would I return? Yes. Would I survive another “Monarch Mule (With Real Horsepower)”? Absolutely not. But I’ll try. ~ Negroni W

Durch viele positive Bewertungen kamen wir in diese Bar und waren vom Ambiente sehr angetan. Außerdem ist Jose ein wirklich hervorragender Barkeeper, aufmerksam & kreativ! Die Drinks sind sehr sehr gut - auch die alkoholfreien! ~ Svenja

De très bon cocktail servi avec les explications, ambiance cosy. L'eau est servie dès que nous n'en avons plus les serveurs sont réactifs l'eau à un goût particulier (chocolat) c'est très surprenant mais c'est une superbe découverte. ~ Chloë

What a great hidden gem in Lisbon. My fiancé and I stumbled upon this unassuming spot on the way back home from dinner to our Airbnb and could not be happier with our experience. The cocktails and general vibe were just great. Everyone that worked there was extremely friendly and the owner of the establishment was very knowledgeable about his craft and execution of his vision. Was such an unexpected and excellent way to spend an evening in Lisbon and we can’t wait to spend tomorrow evening sampling more of their unique creations. Also - for those of you that might like lighter, sweeter, or fizzy cocktails - the owner is a certified Fizz-assist, creating really great, unique, one of a kind fizzy drinks that are really out of this world. At the same time, their more spirit forward cocktails are still bold and unique enough to just keep coming back for more. Such a disappointment we didn’t find this place sooner. We stepped inside and the bartender invited us in. You can sit at a cozy private table. We chose to sit at the bar and have fun conversation with other patrons and the owner. Was not crowded early on a weeknight during off peak season. We each enjoyed 2 cocktails that were priced as expected between 11-13 euros each for high quality crafted drinks. Our favorite drink was Backdoor Bandit. Would happily return and explore the menu more. ~ Emily W

These are some of the best cocktails we’ve ever had—absolutely spectacular! My number one from now on is “Blast from the Past”, but honestly, every drink we tried was incredible. On top of that, the place itself is beautiful, with a cozy, intimate vibe and great music. The owner, Ze, is such an awesome person and really makes the whole experience even better. This place is a hidden gem. In any other city it would be a must-go. The bartender is knowledgeable and friendly, as is the waiter. Casual place but with high quality spirits and cocktails to an agreeable price given the effort made into every cocktail. Absolute banger of a menu. The bartenders know exactly what they're doing to create well balanced, interesting and delicious serves full of personality. The Saudade with the risotto wash is excellent (trust me it works), and so does their take on a banana daquiri / Manhattan cross. Had four drinks, and each one was as good as those I've had in Top 50 bars across the world. Highly, highly recommended. ~ Henry C

These were hands down the best cocktails we had ever had. The bar master (Freddie) is a true craftsman - he clearly delights in creating and choosing recipes that his guests will love, and he is a true master of his craft. He actually sits down with you to learn what you enjoy before bringing out samples to see if they resonate, and then takes your order. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. TL;DR: This is hands-down the best cocktail bar in Lisbon. Bigger review: Oddly enough I don't want you to know about this bar. I want to keep it all for myself... but since I'm not in Lisbon all the time, I don't mind sharing it that much. Excellent cocktails, amazing people and lovely atmosphere. My husband and I stumbled into this bar after a long day and it was everything we could’ve hoped for and more. The vibe and aesthetic is perfection, and the bartender is friendly and extremely skilled. I had him pick my cocktails based on my personal flavor preferences and my drinks were exceptional. My husband got a classic dirty martini and it was also very well made. We will be back! ~ Megan S
